2009 ilove olive oil is shipping

It's that time of the year again.

After decanting of the oil, sending samples to one of New Zealand's top tasters to get the best blend possible, blending and bottling, we have now started shipping this years ilove extra virgin olive oil.

The 2009 vintage is tasting milder than the 2008 but with the unmistakeable flavour of grassiness that is the hallmark of all great New Zealand extra virgin olive oils. The late wet spell at the end of autumn, just prior to picking, took the intense edge off the oil and left a more smooth fruity taste with a fabulous olive aroma.

Recently Mike Hanson, one of the New Zealand olive growers who helped create Wairarapa Olives Ltd  to create and market ilove xtra virgin olive oil, returned to Minnesota where he was raised on a corn and soybean farm.  While there he helped spread the word about our great product.  See the Minnesota-St. Paul Star Tribune

ilove extra virgin olive oil at nz wine fair

ilove extra virgin olive oil added a New Zealand food dimension to the recent New Zealand Wine Fair held in Vancouver. The Fair attracted 400 trade visitors and 300 consumers. Erik from our distributor Dovre Imports showcased the oil which he said was very well received. Another comment was that ilove olive oil was “amazing”.

extra virgin olive oil tasting for our growers

Wairarapa Olives Ltd, makers of ilove extra virgin olive oil, recently invited its grower/shareholders to spend some time with two certified tasters, originally from Italy but now resident in New Zealand, who very generously volunteered their time discussing and demonstrating the official tasting process. We believe that to produce the best olive oil our growers need detailed knowledge of what makes a great oil.

The informal session also gave growers a chance to discuss issues around growing that might affect quality, and what is needed to keep ilove at the top.
